Mrs. Monroe’s Music CD featuring the Monroe pianoforte! A joint project of the museum and UMW music professor Mark Snyder, the CD features eight songs selected from Maria Monroe’s music book and from other popular compositions of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The music is performed on the Monroe family’s c. 1802 Astor pianoforte by Heidi Stello, editorial assistant for the Papers of James Monroe and a longtime JMM docent. The CD is available for $7.00 in our museum store.
The striking James Monroe necktie is back in the store! The tie features a griffin – an adaptation of the dragon on the flag of Wales, representing Monroe’s Welsh heritage through his mother, Elizabeth Jones. It makes a wonderful gift for the history enthusiasts in your life – especially those with Welsh heritage themselves! The tie is available in our store for $28.00.
For young ladies who enjoy dolls, we have Revolutionary War-era dress patterns for both informal separates as well as informal dresses. The styles are similar to dresses worn by the ladies of the Monroe family. The patterns make clothing that fits American Girl dolls and other dolls of that size range (18 inch). We also offer packets of fabric from the pattern manufacturer that can be used to make the dresses. The patterns are $20.00 and the fabric packets are $14.95.
For cross stitch enthusiasts, we have several new Monroe related cross stitch kits on the way! Soon to be on the shelves is a beautiful cross stitch adaptation of a beaded purse in our collection that belonged to Elizabeth Monroe, wife of James Monroe. There will also be a cross stitch bookmark kit featuring a floral design drawn from one of the purses in the collection along with the name of the museum. Finally, we will also soon have available a cross stitch kit featuring the likeness of the exterior of the James Monroe Museum.
