You are here: Home / Museum Events / Fall Events: Annual Welsh Festival and James Monroe Symposium

August 12, 2013 by Adele Uphaus-Conner

Summer is winding down and JMM is gearing up for its fall events!

Saturday, September 21, noon to 5 p.m.: We’ll once again co-sponsor the annual Fredericksburg Welsh Festival in the 900 block of Charles Street. This celebration of Monroe’s Welsh heritage includes a Welsh marketplace; live music; history, genealogy and language lessons; folk dancing; storytelling; a poetry contest; and children’s activities. For more information, visit the Welsh Festival website.

Friday-Saturday, October 18-19: “James Monroe: Life and Legacy” Symposium

This free public program, a joint presentation of the museum and the Papers of James Monroe, features lectures from an array of scholars covering political and cultural themes of Monroe’s life, and concludes with the 26th Annual James Monroe Lecture.

Go here for a list of speakers and other announcements.

Sponsorship of the program has graciously been provided by the University of Mary Washington, the Papers of James Monroe, the Friends of the James Monroe Museum, the Stewart Jones Charitable Trust, the Paul Mesick Jones Trust (Walter Jervis Sheffield, Trustee), and the James Monroe Memorial Foundation.
