@PresMonroe and the 1817 tour of the northern states

The James Monroe Museum kicks off a new social media campaign in celebration of the bicentennial of James Monroe’s presidency and his 1817 tour of the northern states. The three-part initiative marks the launch of the new Twitter username @PresMonroe. Follow President Monroe on Twitter! The social media campaign features three major themes designated by three different hashtags. Tweets featuring #JMo1stTerm will concentrate on the beginning of Monroe’s presidency (1817-1821), including issues of focus as represented by his first inaugural address, cabinet appointments, and purpose for and speeches from his presidential tours. This portion of the campaign features a secondary hashtag, #JMoInaugural, which will highlight excerpts from his inaugural address. James Monroe Inauguration Bicentennial Commemoration Saturday, March 4

Don't miss our recreation of James Monroe's first presidential inauguration on Saturday, March 4 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Location: On the steps of Monroe Hall, University of Mary Washington James Monroe was inaugurated for his first term as the nation’s fifth president on March 4, 1817, ushering in what became known as the “Era of Good Feelings.” On this 200th anniversary of his first inauguration, the public is invited to witness Monroe’s inaugural address and the oath of office as administered by his longtime friend and occasional political adversary, Chief Justice John Marshall. The presidential party, including Elizabeth Monroe, will be welcomed by a color guard and the Historical Trumpets and Flutes of the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. Living history interpreters, including James “Jay” G. New Public Programs Coordinator Hired

The James Monroe Museum is pleased to announce that Lynda Allen was recently chosen as the institution’s first Public Programs Coordinator.  The new staff position is responsible for all of the Museum’s interpretive events, educational programs and facility rentals. Programs are offered on a variety of topics throughout the year, and tours for public and private schools and other groups serve audiences from the Fredericksburg region, Virginia, and a growing number of other states.  The Museum’s garden is a popular rental venue for private functions including weddings, parties and other social gatherings. Ms. Allen was hired in September 2013 as the Museum’s Office and Store Manager, in which capacity she oversaw office administration, trained Museum Guides in admissions and store operations, and oversaw product development and sales activity.
